CSPCP Incoming President Dr. Ebru Kaya

On behalf of the Board of the Canadian Society of Palliative Care Physicians, we wish to welcome our incoming president Dr Ebru Kaya.

Ebru graduated from her residency training in palliative medicine in the UK and immigrated to Canada in 2006. Ebru is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine and is the Program Director for the Royal College residency training program in palliative medicine at the University of Toronto. She is also the interim Division Director in Toronto and the Palliative Care Site Lead for the Toronto General Hospital. Ebru first joined the Board of Directors 5 years ago, where she has served as Treasurer and President-Elect and has contributed to many committees and working groups associated with the Society. She currently divides her time between provision of clinical services, teaching, and in her leadership roles for University Health Network, the Division of Palliative Medicine in Toronto and the Canadian Society of Palliative Care Physicians.

On behalf of the CSPCP, President Leonie Herx advocates for maintaining hospice palliative care resources in the ongoing dispute between Delta Hospice Society and Fraser Health in BC.

CSPCP PRESENTATION TO SENATE COMMITTEE

CSPCP President Dr. David Henderson will present to the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology on October 19, 2017. He will advocate for acceptance of Bill C-277 on behalf of the CSPCP.

Dr. Henderson recommends that the Federal Government “Establish a well funded secretariat and form a small nimble high level working group made up from key national organizations to start working on implementation. Focus needs to be on administrative cost containment so funds see their way to delivery of services!” Links to his presentation are below.

CSPCP Advocates to accept Bill C-277 (March 7, 2017)

CSPCP President David Henderson and Standing Committee on Health Chair Bill Casey.

CSPCP President Dr. David Henderson was invited by the federal government’s Standing Committee on Health to give input on Bill C-277: An Act providing for the development of a framework on palliative care in Canada.

Dr. Henderson recommended acceptance of the draft Bill and he provided strong supporting rationale.
