UPDATED Palliative Care Competencies for Undergraduate Medical Students

(June 26, 2018). Attached are updated, nationally-validated Palliative Care Competencies for Undergraduate Medical Students in Canada in EnglishandFrench. The goal of this undergraduate curriculum is to integrate key competencies (and their enabling competencies) into each medical school’s curriculum and to build on currently existing curricula. Details about how the competencies were developed and validated are provided in the introductory section of the document.

The competencies will help medical schools to equip Canada’s future physicians with the fundamental skills and knowledge to provide a palliative approach to care for their patients with life threatening illness and their families across the multiple different settings of care.

The project team gratefully acknowledges the organizations and individuals who participated in the process (see Appendix A).
